A plea from a worried mother, hospital adventure, a baptism with the sisters, and Zone Conference.

Glynis here: We were a bit worried after reading this week's letter from Jacob. Before he left on his mission, he was diagnosed with scoliosis. His spine is pretty curvy, and will eventually need surgery to correct it. However, he was given the all-clear to go to Peru. While he's been serving, his back has become more and more painful. The messenger bag that was required was really hurting him. He got special permission from President Parker to use a backpack, and so he ordered one that would allow him to distribute the weight evenly and lower on his back. However, things are still painful. As his parents, Alan and I are asking that if you have the inclination, would you please add Jacob to your fasting and prayers? If his back becomes too much of a problem, he will be sent home, and he definitely does NOT want that!
Hey!
This week was sort of crazy for the offices. I bought all of the flights for the transfers coming up, and sort of got a plan for how everyone is going to make it to their new areas. This is a huge job and takes a lot of time! We also had our interviews with President Parker. We talked about cool doctrine things that I had questions about, and just about life in general. He asked me how long I think I'll stay here (meaning the office), and I told him I like it here in the office and I'll stay as long as he needs me to. I did mention that at some point I'd like to go back out to the field. I don't know, Christmas would be cool in the office. We'll see what happens. The good thing is that no matter where I go or where I serve, I know that I am where I'm supposed to be.
This week I also learned that the Peruvian hospital system is basically terrible! So, my back has been hurting a bit this week, and the area doctor just so happens to be coming next week to do a medical tour of the mission. So I talked to sister Parker and she told me to go to the clinic here and to get an X-ray on my back to show to Doctor Dowdle when he comes next week.
Well, we went and it was just line after line! We had an appointment for 10:30 in the morning and we ended up leaving at around 2:00 in the afternoon. And to make it worse, they only took an X-ray of the bottom half of my back and it hurts at the top, so we are going back on Monday to get another one... and, you guessed it, we have to pay again. Basically, I think Peruvian hospitals are just a big money scheme. I am ok; it's just a funny story now when I think back on it.
This morning (Saturday) at 10:00 the Sisters in my district have a baptism! His name is José Antonio, he is 9 years old, and his parents were inactive but have started coming back to church, so Sister Fernandez and Conde have been teaching him. I did his interview and his mom wants me to baptize him, so I'll be leaving here pretty soon to go to his baptism and then come back.
Love you guys! I´ll include some pictures when I get back in about an hour!

Oh my gosh, and I forgot to write about the zone conference we had! Basically, yesterday was the multi-zone conference for the city of Iquitos, and it was so spiritual! We learned so much about agency and how we choose to be disciples of Jesus Christ. I loved it so much. The office Elders, including me, and a few others formed a choir and sang "A Poor Wayfaring Man of Grief" going in and out of Spanish and English. I even sang a solo! it was pretty cool. Before the mission I didn't really like to sing, but now I do!
