Celebrating one year out! A new calling. New investigators

Glynis here: We were able to talk to Jacob on Saturday and see him via Skype. He's doing extremely well. He has a new companion and they are getting along well! He's enjoying the office work, but his new calling is keeping him busy and on his toes.

As of this week I have more than a YEAR here in Peru! It doesn´t feel like it though. It feels like I’m still a new missionary who just said goodbye to my family in the airport. I think this year has gone the fastest of any in my life, maybe it´s because there are no seasons here, it´s always the same but it really doesn´t feel like it´s been a whole year.

The good thing is my companion Elder Argyle is from my same group of missionaries, so we celebrated together on August 8th. We went to the market and bought some ice cream and made some milkshakes that night. It was pretty awesome. I don´t have any pictures of that so sorry.

This week 3 missionaries went home for studies, one of them was Elder Newell, who trained me in the office. It was sad to say goodbye to him but that´s just how the mission is, it gets sadder and sadder every transfer, because the people who go home are your friends.

We found time to proselyte more in our area this week too, we found this one couple named Roberto y Maritza. They are both pretty old, about 65 years old, but they let us in. they are pretty catholic, but they were open to our message, and we left them with our testimonies and the book of Mormon. She said she wanted to go to church to see how it is so we´ll probably pass by their house tonight to remind them.

In other news, I forgot to mention last week that now I have two assignments. I am still the personal secretary, but I am also the district leader for the offices. So, in my district, it is me and my companion, The assistants Elder Jacobson and Castro, the other 2 secretaries Elder Macz y Elder Moldis and the sister missionaries in one other area Hermana Fernandez and Hermana Yañez. It´s kind of a bit of extra work, but it´s cool, When I call them to check up on them and their area, I like to ask them what miracles they have seen. The sisters have a really hard ward to work with, but they said that they´ve been getting more help from the members. They have an attendance of about 55 members, while our ward has about 120, there are just a lot of inactive members who don´t come to church. But that´s what´s cool about missionary work, not just finding new people but helping people come back.

Well, this year´s been real. So much has happened in so short a time.

Love,

- Elder Neves
