Glynis here: Jacob continues to thrive in Peru! He is so enjoying his mission. Every time we talk to him, he tells us how amazed he is that the time is flying by so fast. We are also amazed! I was positive that this would be the longest/hardest 2 years for me, but just knowing that he is happy and where he wants to be makes it so much easier for me! We don't get too many photos from Jacob, so we were thrilled to get a whole bunch of them from Sister Parker! Get ready for picture overload!
Ok guys,
I don't have a ton of time today, because it just so happens to be CONFERENCE! So, I'll be short and sweet with this email.
This week was transfer week, and the night before transfers were going to start I got a call from Peruvian Airlines (I had spent a lot of time buying and arranging a ton of flights from them for the transfers). They told me that their planes had been suspended by the government because the company was in a ton of debt, and that the flights were CANCELED!!! I was panicking so hard. Basically, all the work I had done for the past few weeks was just thrown out the window and into the garbage disposal. Well, long story short, I got down on my knees and prayed, then made a TON of phone calls. Everything was worked out in the end, and I was able to switch the flights to a different airline, but they all had to leave earlier in the morning. Because of that, I had to rearrange everything I had planned. But I know God helped us out there, and now all the missionaries are in their areas safe and sound.
Another pretty awesome thing that happened this week was that we (the office Elders) are in the process of moving houses, but our new house is still under construction, so we didn't have a place to stay. Luckily, President and Sister Parker are incredibly awesome and they let us stay with them, so we've been staying in the mission house! The best part? There is HOT WATER THERE!!!! I haven't had a hot shower since the MTC so it was just incredible.
Last but not least, we had an old investigator come back!! Liz (if you remember) was threatened by her aunt and uncle to be kicked out of her house if she kept listening to us, so she really had no choice but to stop working with us. However, last Sunday she showed up at church! She told us she wants to keep listening to our message! It was such a testimony builder for me. I know that this is the work of the Lord.
We also finally found a new investigator; a guy named Ramiro. We were proselyting and it was POURING rain. We were drenched from head to toe, and there was lighting all over the place super close to us. But we knocked on his door, and HE WAS THERE! He let us in and we read in 3 Nephi 11 with him, and he told us he wants to be baptized to change his life, but he wants to be a little more ready first. He is so awesome!
We also had a baptism of Jean Pierre this week. I have seen a change in him since we started teaching him and I love to see how the Gospel helps him to be a better person!
Anyway, I love you guys a ton. Have a great Conference weekend, and be sure to take a couple questions and an open mind :)
Sinceramente,
-Elder Neves
