Exploring Pucallpa, and adventures in the jungle.

Glynis here: Happy Thanksgiving to you all! We had a good chat with Jacob on Monday! He is enjoying being a "foot" missionary, again. He walks a good 5 kilometers or more each day. He absolutely LOVES his companion! Elder Veach is just a "mini" Jacob! He loves music, attends the Utah Shakespeare Festival, and is eager to learn from our Elder. We feel so blessed that Jacob gets to train this sweet companion! At this time of counting our blessings, we are grateful for all of you that keep Jacob in your prayers!
Hi, everyone,
So this week was pretty interesting. First of all, I would like to say that Pucallpa is a lot more advanced than Iquitos is. Well, at least when we go into the center of town. Last P-day we were in a place called Plaza Vea. It seriously felt like we were in the United States again. It's basically a mall. There was even a Pizza Hut and a KFC!! It was crazy. It sort of blew my mind, not going to lie, I hadn't seen stuff like that in so long. It was all decorated for Christmas too! AH! It was just a good time.
So, this week in our area was really good. Elder Veach and I saw a lot of tender mercies of the Lord. We can tell He is really helping us out in our area. We have been contacting and finding some really good people. For example, we were contacting and we felt like we should knock on this one door. We did, and a man named Roberto came out. He started to talk to us in broken English, and we responded back. He let us in and he told us he's a member, but he hasn't gone to church for years and years. His partner, Sulema, isn't a member, but years ago was listening to the missionaries and they were getting ready to get married so she could get baptized and then they had a misunderstanding with some members from their old ward and they stopped coming to church. We testified of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ and we promised them that it will bless their family if they let it. So we are visiting them now along with a few other families.
We also had a sort of interesting experience out in a lesson far into the jungle in our area. We took the bus out to kilometer 13 from the city and we walked about 4 kilometers in from there to teach a family named the Familia Herrera Ruiz. They were old investigators, the dad Jonatan, is studying with the Jehovah's Witnesses, and we haven't been able to meet with him. But we have taught his partner Monica, their 18 year old son Sender, and 4 other kids. On this lesson we taught them the Plan of Salvation, and it was a really good lesson. As we finished, Monica told us a story of something that happened to her. She told us that there was a teenager in her neighborhood that was having stomach problems, and he needed surgery but couldn't afford it. He went to a church called El Nino de Sanacion, or "the child of healing." When he was there they had him lay on a table up front and then all of a sudden the lights went out and there was chanting and they were rubbing his belly. The next thing he remembered was he woke up in his house and he looked at his leg where there was a 666 burned into his thigh...
As Monica told us this she started to cry, she said she saw it on him and when she asked him about it, his countenance changed and his voice changed too. He shouted at her and told her not to ask about it. She ran away and made it home safely. So, yeah, basically horrifying! We calmed her down and testified of the power the name of Jesus Christ has and that everything is going to be ok.
That far out into our area is pitch black from 6:30 pm through the night, so walking back to the highway to get a motokar was a little terrifying, but we made it!
Anyways! I love you guys a lot! I hope you all have a great week!
Sincerely,
-Elder Neves
