In other words, no change for our missionary, yet. Christmas is coming to Iquitos! Plans change for the baptism.

Elder Neves contemplates another transfer in Iquitos.

Glynis here: It's amazing how much Mondays come to mean to us, isn't it? Today was especially wonderful, as I got to speak to Jacob for about 5 minutes to make plans for the Christmas phone call. He sounds wonderful, and very, very happy! He is also starting to lose his English! He would start a sentence in English, but halfway through, it was all Spanish. He has really been blessed to learn the language quickly! Merry Christmas to you all!

Hey guys!

How are you all? Things are great here in Iquitos. First of all, I didn't get transferred, so I'm going to be spending Christmas here! That's so cool! It is starting to feel like I have been here forever. I started my mission here, and at the end of this change, I'll be 1/4 of the way done with my mission! Pretty crazy, right?!? It feels like I just got here! The biggest problem is that it's getting harder to find new people. I feel like I see the same people in the street every day, and they have already told us they don't want to listen to us. I have a feeling this will be my last change here in Mi Peru. Then, who knows where I'll get sent!

This was was ok. I do have some bad news about the baptismal dates we had. First, with Giovanna. She made the decision to move to Lima. She's going to be moving at the end of January and she has decided to take the discussions and be baptized with her partner in Lima. She still really wants to get baptized, but she feels like it'll be a lot better as a family. We are going to finish all of her lessons and strengthen her testimony before she moves. The we'll send the reference to the Elders in Lima. We already sent the reference for her partner who is living in Lima right now, so he is being visited by the Elders there. Giovanna told us that he is listening to the, so that's good.

Now, with Cindy... she hasn't been answering her phone, and she didn't come to church this week. We feel like her baptismal date would be much better mid-January so it looks like that triple baptism after Christmas isn't going to happen. Bu, Jackie is progressing SO WELL! She is just about done with all of her lessons and she is so excited for her baptism. Her testimony has grown so much and she is reading her Book of Mormon. That's pretty great!

This week we had an interesting experience with a Christian pastor. We were teaching the Book of Mormon to an investigator named Gilberto, and then his uncle showed up. He is a pastor of a Baptist congregation. At first he was like, "ahhh, que bueno, teaching the word of Christ!" He was all excited to see us! Then he saw we had a Book of Mormon in our hands, and he completely changed. He started throwing scriptures at us left and right, trying to disprove us. We listed to what he had to say patiently, and when he finally wore himself out we took out our Bibles, sharpened 'em up, and fuimos a la batalla (we went to battle)! Honestly, it was a mistake on our part. Nobody feels the Spirit in a Bible bash. We ended up just inviting them both to pray, and to find out for themselves directly from God, and then we had to leave. I regret it. I wish we would have dealt with the situation a little better, and invited the spirit more, but at least we learned from it. The Spirit is the most important part of any lesson. Without it, nothing will happen. El espiritu es todo. (the Spirit is everything.)

That's about it for this week. I am so excited for Christmas. This week is going to be awesome. We are finding new people, and that is awesome. I love seeing people change and become so much happier. Have a great week!

P.S. We put up our Christmas tree this wee, and it's pretty great. Elder Quezada's face in our picture is just amazing!

Mary made Jacob this Christmas tree that he can fold up and take with him.
