Our Elder, not quite Singin' in the Rain!

Glynis here: What a great visit we had with Jacob on Saturday! Alan and I sent him a new Webcam for the mission office, and it worked so well. We were able to see him clearly! All the missionaries in the office were ecstatic to be able to actually be seen by their families! Jacob continues to be healthy and happy. He told us that he has been able to bypass all the stomach problems the missionaries usually have because he's learned how to turn down water offered by the investigators. He loves being in the office and really feels like he is learning how the mission works. He's grateful for the opportunity to be in the office and knows that what he is learning will help him in his future.

Hi, everyone!

This has been a week of lots of cool experiences! Let's get right to it.

One of the best things that happened this week was that we got an inactive member named Renzo to come to church. We had visited him last week, and we shared a video with him about the life of Jesus Christ. We shared with him the parable of the Prodigal Son, and we told him no matter how far he´s gone, everyone is going to welcome him back. When he showed up to church, Elder Roper and I got super excited! We went around with him to the members and they all shook his hand and thought he was an investigator at first, then they were like, “Wait a minute, I know you!” and it was really awesome. They all hugged him and invited him to sit by them. Apparently it´s been 10 years since he came to church. Last time he came to church he was 18 and had decided not to go on a mission and so he stopped coming. Now he´s 28 and he said he´ll come next week too. So that´ll be awesome.

Also this week we had a lesson with Daniel and Cínthia. They are the couple who we are trying to get married. Daniel is an inactive member and Cínthia is his girlfriend. We had already explained to them the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and we decided to teach them the Restoration. As we were teaching, there was a lot of noise around us, and it was hard to get everyone´s attention. Daniel wasn't very focused at all. Once we got to the apostasy and the restoration, Daniel interrupted us and said, “I feel like I should talk” We were nervous for what he was going to say, but he proceeded to teach his girlfriend the restoration. He remembered everything he had learned in Primary and his girlfriend started to pay a lot of attention. We invited her to pray about it, to see if it was true, and she asked us how she´d know if God responds to her. We explained about the Holy Ghost and how it works and she said, “So that feeling I get when you guys are here, it´ll be something like that?” We got super happy and told her that´s exactly right.

This week I also learned that sometimes when we find someone, our message might not be for them, but it might be for someone close by. We found someone named Martín a while ago. I think I've mentioned him here in my emails. He has traveled a lot on the river lately so it´s been hard to find him. One day we were looking for him, and we found his brother, named Pasteur. He was super interested, and he let us in to share a message. He took the restoration really well, and had a lot of questions that drove the lesson in the right direction.

Now, about our investigator Liz: we met with her a few days ago to check up and see how she´s doing with her Book of Mormon reading and her prayers. We also taught her the Plan of Salvation and we invited her to be baptized on the 20th of July. She said she really wants to, but she´ll pray about it first and then when she gets her answer, she will. I´m really excited for it. Keep her in your prayers, please.

And lastly, yesterday we had a ward activity called, “Escrituras Vivientes” or Living Scriptures. Basically, every organization put on a little play or show of a story in the scriptures. It was actually really fun. The Primary sang "Follow the Prophet," the Young Women did the parable of the 10 virgins, the Relief Society did the tree of life, and then we, as the missionaries, did the Prodigal son. The Elder´s Quorum and the Young Men totally forgot, so they didn't do anything. Ayway, I was the prodigal son, and it was really funny. We had one of the other missionaries hold up a sign that said "Wickedness for 5 soles." Haha. The activity was really creative and we got some references out of it.

Overall I am doing great. Loving the mission and working hard. Let me know if you have any questions, I´d love to hear from all of you guys.

Hasta la próxima! (Until next time)
