A Leadership Conference, teaching the missionaries, and food for thought.

Glynis here: Not a very long letter from Jacob this week. He is very busy, training his companions replacement. He does give some wonderful insights into the leadership conference that President Parker held. On another note, we are coming up on the 1 year mark for Jacob! It's hard to believe that an entire year has gone by, but so it is! He is so happy where he is, that I don't think he'll ever want to come home.
Hello Everyone!
This will be a quick letter as I don´t have a ton of time on my hands today. This week was really spiritual. First of all we had a meeting with all of the trainers in the whole mission. In total, I think I had to buy like 9 flights, but it was totally worth it.
In the meeting we talked about the importance of the first few months to a new missionary; how it sets the course for the rest of their mission. Then, we talked about what kind of mission should they have. All missionaries should expect a mission of miracles. We talked about how the key to miracles is to have high expectations and lots of love. President Parker drew a graph that had 4 parts: high expectations and low expectations, and high love and low love. He then went on to explain the graph. When there are high expectations but little love for the work, that is when we become more like salesmen than missionaries. When it´s low love and low expectations, that´s when it´s like a rebellion. When it´s high love but low expectations it´s like a party and everyone goes crazy, and when it´s high love with high expectations it produces miracles, and that is the gospel of Jesus Christ. He expects us to live high expectations because we love Him, not because someone forces us to do so. I really liked that idea.
I have thought about that concept so many times in the past week. It seems that life is just like that; we should be held to high expectations and we should fulfill them because we love everyone, not because someone forces us to.
Anyway, that was the highlight. My companion´s replacement is here in the office now for training, He is Elder Argyle! He is from my group in the CCM. In fact we sat by each other on the plane from Utah to Lima about a year ago!
Love you guys a ton!!

Glynis here (again): I love reading about all the stuff Jacob is learning! Unfortunately, sometimes we don't get the whole story from him. Luckily, I am friends with his current companions mother, and she shared the following story from her son's last letter:
"Wednesday we had a meeting with all the trainers in the mission! In this same meeting, President Parker asked Elder Neves and I to give a half hour training. I thought that it was going to be wayyyy too much time, but we ended up going over by about 10 minutes hahah. We did a really good job. It was fun to plan. We started with a web chart, as if we were writing an essay. We got some ideas that we wanted to transmit to the missionaries, and then we just kinda let the Spirit do its thing. It took us about an hour to do. Both President and Hermana Parker were impressed with what we had done. I think that we also set a mission record by being the first Secretaries to train in a meeting before the AP´s even train. Fun stuff."
