Many changes! A transfer, a new calling, and new responsibilities.

Glynis here: Jacob has had some major changes in his mission, and we are excited for you to hear all about them. First of all, we have to apologize for the lack of a letter last week. All the changes happened on his P-day, and he didn't have time to email. We got one call, to let us know what was happening, and then he was off on the new adventure. We are so thrilled for this new opportunity for Jacob! We know he has been placed in this position for a wise purpose! He is doing well, and is loving his new experiences.
Hello everybody!
First of all, I'm so sorry I wasn't able to write to you all last week. For those who haven't heard yet, I was in Moyobamba a few weeks ago on a P-day, when I got a call from President Li. He told me that he had chosen me to be his new personal secretary! I was super shocked, but excited at the same time. The very next day, I caught a flight back to Iquitos. When I stepped off the plane, I was reminded of JUST HOW HOT it is in Iquitos!!! It was horrible! The good news, however, is that upon arriving in the mission office, I was reminded that we have Air Conditioning there! It was a tender mercy, indeed. I have to admit that I got a bit spoiled by the "cooler" weather in Moyobamba! I will miss it!
Well, I don't have a ton of time today. It's General Conference and we just saw the first session (it was awesome!). In about an hour the second session will be starting so I'll have to get back to you all later. We are all watching the sessions at the Stake Center here. It's being shown in English, which is kind of funny to listen to. Anyway, I want to let you all know that I love you, and that it has been a blessing to be here in the office. I work directly with mission president, and because our mission is gigantic, and none of the cities are connected by roads, I am pretty much CONSTANTLY busy buying flights for missionaries, the president, and lots of other people.
Another responsibility I have is to take notes at the conferences. We just had a Leadership Conference, and it was hilarious to just sit there as Sister Li (the president's wife) roasted every one of the zone leaders! The notes I took are incredibly funny! Oh, that reminds me, after the leadership council, we had to send all the leaders back to their zones. Obviously, they were all flying. BUT, apparently we didn't read the tickets good enough, because all the leaders from Tarapoto and Moyobamba missed their flights!!! Elder Newell (the guy who's training me) and I stayed in the office until 10:30 that night to try to get them flights for the next day.
Well, I don't have much more time to explain EVERYTHING that happened this week. I'll just say that working so closely with the president is awesome! I'm learning a lot and loving the work. Here's some basic information (since I know Mom will worry if I don't tell her): I now have to do my own cooking and laundry. We don't have a pensionista! I really miss that! Seriously! I'm eating a lot of cereal. I promised mom I'd try to cook something this week, so we'll see how that goes. Some more general information, there are 4 Elders in the office (not including the AP), so we are quite the foursome. We work in the office for the morning and early afternoon. Then, we have been assigned areas in the city, so we go out and knock doors, or work with investigators. It's good to still be able to do the proselyting part of missionary work.
Love you guys,
Elder Neves
