Glynis here: Still not a lot of details about the earthquake. He did tell us that in Iquitos, there was not much damage; just some cracking to some buildings. However, in Moyobamba some older buildings did collapse. So, not as much service opportunity as he thought there would be. He is healthy, happy and learning so much!
Buenos días mi querida familia y mis queridos amigos! (Good morning, my dear family and my dear friends)
This week was pretty busy, but a lot of really good stuff happened. On Sunday we invited our investigator, Liz, to come to church. When she didn't show up at 9:00, we were a little sad, because she had seemed so excited to come. Later, during the second hour, she showed up and seemed a little sad. We asked her what was wrong and she told us that her aunt and uncle told her that if she comes to church, or if she keeps listening to us, she isn´t welcome in their family, and she´d have to move. Elder Roper and I were a little shocked, this is the first time something like that has happened. We told her that there will always be trials, to see if we really have faith in the Savior. We promised her that if she trusts in God, and continues to listen to us, she will be blessed, and that her aunt and uncle will see that it is a good thing. We told her that the decision to keep listening to us was hers. She thought about it for a minute, started crying, then told us she still wants to listen to us! That moment was so powerfulI I looked at my companion and we decided to go for it. So, we are now teaching her in the chapel, instead of going to her house, and it´s going really well so far. That made my testimony grow a little bit more.
This week President Li called us out of nowhere, and told us he wanted to have a Family Home Evening with us. He invited us to his house, and so we went, and it was so cool! The mission house is probably the nicest house in the city to be honest. We had a testimony meeting and Hermana Li made ají de Gallina (Peruvian Spicy Creamed Chicken) for dinner. We all went around and shared with President and Hermana Li what we love about them and what we are going to miss. President Parker will get here on June 28th. so President Li is saying goodbye to all the elders for the last time.
Yesterday, Elder Roper and I were out contacting, and we remembered one guy we had taught once named Martín. We had given him a Book of Mormon before, so we decided to go check up to see if he had read it (usually they haven´t). We knocked on his door and he was all excited, we talked for a little bit and asked how his Book of Mormon reading was going, he had read from the cover all the way through the testimony of Joseph Smith about the Book of Mormon. Basically, he had it memorized! He was like, "I think it was on the 21st of September when José was praying and Moroni came to him." He remembered so, so much, which is insane! Usually, if the people read it, they don´t even remember what it was they read. so that was awesome! We taught the gospel of Jesus Christ, and we invited him to be baptized, he said he´d pray about it and if he gets an answer he will. So that was really awesome! Keep him in your prayers! We'd love for him to get his answer.
That was this week in a nutshell, sure do love you guys!
